Our elders carried the Tamil language, our festivals and our values across the sea and planted them here in Southend. Southend Tamil Association’s Elders Club – மூத்தோர் அவை – is our way of saying thank you: a place where the senior members of our families can meet, talk in their own language, share a meal and a laugh, and know that someone is looking out for them.
The club is open to all Tamil elders in Southend-on-Sea and the surrounding area – members of the Association and newcomers alike – and to their families. This is what we are building together; tell us what you would like the club to be.

Meet-ups over tea and snacks – Tamil songs and stories, games, shared meals, and the festivals of the year celebrated together.
Health & wellbeing · உடல் நலம்
Gentle yoga and exercise sessions, health talks in Tamil, and walks together along the Southend seafront.
Outings & pilgrimages · சுற்றுலா, யாத்திரை
Day trips and temple visits, and a seat on the Association’s pilgrimages – with younger members on hand to help.
A helping hand · உதவி
Help with letters, forms and appointments, a friendly phone call for elders living alone, and a link to our Helping Hand project.

Are you 60 or over, or is there an elder in your family who would enjoy the company? Tell us – the club’s programme is planned around the people who join. நீங்கள் தமிழில் பேசலாம் – you are welcome to speak to us in Tamil.
