About Us
The Southend Tamil Association (STA) was formed on 2nd June 2010, mainly to serve linguistic, cultural and social needs of the Tamil community of Southend-On-Sea and its surrounding areas. The main object of the association was to teach language and culture to the younger generation to enable them to learn and preserve the rich, ancient history and heritage of Tamils, as well as uniting all Tamil people and non-Tamil people through the language and heritage. The STA is managed by a committee of volunteers whose aims are to protect and serve the needs of the community.
The STA has grown as an organisation, and in April 2020, became a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO – 1189156), after becoming recognised in the community as an organisation that thrives on helping people out regardless of gender, race, social or economic background.
STA will continue forward in their growth, and their long-term aims are to become recognised in the education sector, become more reachable and accessible to the whole community, and be able to access charitable funds in recognition of the work they do and continue to do.
